Official Description: This is book #6 of the Fever series & Book #1 in the Dani O’Malley Trilogy
The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.
Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.
Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.
When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.
Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.
My Take:
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Fever series, I love Mac and Barrons, I like that the last book in the series ended so open that there could easily be more stories and I like Dani. Is this book as good as the first 5…I don’t think it has the same spark, but it’s hard to beat what Mac and Barrons had, especially when you’re following around an extremely hormonal 14-year-old girl. It actually took about 25% of the book before I really got into it. I mean it was slow coming, we follow a mopey Dani around and set up the Fever world as it is immediately after Shadowfever. Dani mentions Mac and we see her in the distance and I just want to know what’s going on with her, because there is some weird business going on but we don’t know what it’s all about. The whole time I was just wanting Dani and Mac to make up because Dani is driving herself crazy about that whole situation. A lot of people think the whole age thing and all the men around Dani is weird. It could be I guess, it didn’t bother me, mostly because a) The Grey Woman (or Lady…I forget what her name was) gave Dani something extra in a previous book making Dani’s qualities pop and she’s got all those Mega-like qualities. Ryodan’s interested in her because she’s different, special he sees what she could become. Dancer I don’t know about Dancer yet, I don’t really trust that kid, but he’s kind of close in age to Dani. Then there is Christian….well, he’s all crazy now, but none of these guys take advantage of her, they all want to wait for her to come of age, they want to train her, mold her into something great, and they all see that she’s going to be a stellar grown up. So it didn’t make me uncomfortable.
The sections I really didn’t see a need for Kat’s POV’s, I guess there was need for sex and Kat was of age so let’s add her in. I didn’t really see how she added to the story at all, maybe it will come into play later on, but right now that just felt like it detracted from the story line.
I really did like this story, it is definitely worth picking up. If you haven’t read the other Fever books, then you’ll be lost because this is a continuation, just with a different character POV. Just be prepared for a killer cliffhanger. Ready for the next book.
